Troop 500 Families:
School and Fall are in full swing
with many activities already happening or in the planning stages. The Troop has
many events planned for the remainder of this year and into next including a
Santa Cruz Island kayak trip, Plaster City Rocket Camp, and Fort Rosecrans
Wreaths Across America. Each of these activities provides opportunities for our
Scouts to advance and develop their leadership skills as well as giving back to
Summer camps at Mataguay, our
local boy scout camp, and Emerald Bay on Catalina are already being planned and
an exciting trip to Philmont Scout Ranch, near Cimarron, New Mexico is underway
for August 2014.
The Troop is already making plans
for a new group of Webelos to join our Troop. A Webelos Field Day and Scout
Skills day is planned for Sunday, November 3rd at Shelter Island.
This is an opportunity for Webelos and their families to become acquainted with
our Troop, meet the leaders, and obtain more information about who we are and
what we do.
Troop 500 is very active and
needs Assistant Scoutmasters (ASMs) and other volunteers to make these events
happen for our boys. We are always looking for interested adults to help as
little or as much as you wish. If you have an interest in helping out and engaging
with the Troop in the areas of advancement, outdoor programs, or service
programs, please give me a call.
This is an exciting time for the
Troop. Many Thanks to Todd Shinohara, the outgoing Scoutmaster, who has
provided great leadership and direction to our Scouts for the past several
years and thank you to those who have entrusted me with an opportunity to
continue the traditions of Troop 500 and expand the opportunities for our boys
to become Leaders in their schools and the Community.
Thank you for all YOU do for
Yours in Scouting
George Briest, Scoutmaster
