Troop 500 Families:
I wanted to pass along my congratulations to the Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser Committee and to Keith Ayres, for pulling together and promoting one of our most successful and memorable auction events. What a terrific job! Also allow me to recognize other parents and Scouts who willingly gave their time and resources toward our effort including: Troop Committee Chair Carl Federici, the leave behind leaflets and promotional posters (Volberdings), door-to-door requested donations, Family donations of Condo & packs, B2B requested donations e.g. Sid’s Carpet Barn (Vanderbilt) facials, dog grooming, the early set-up crew who responded to the call (Federici, Maas and others), Gizzi and his kitchen crew, the United Portuguese S.E.S for their generous contribution of the Hall, the front of the Hall intake table for registration and pay table (Goodwin, Omens, Wilhelm, Wilson), Correia Jr High Jazz Band and Mark Dwyer, those Troop sponsors who purchased a table, photographer (Colloca-Fettel), those who provided donations and boots for the Scoutmaster’s free table, and all the parents who pitched in at the last moment to put together auction baskets. I am only scratching the surface of an incredible Troop 500 effort of giving, and the day-to-day volunteer efforts of our Assistant Scoutmasters and Committee members who make it happen.
Additionally, it was beyond recent memory where we had the presence of the Mayor – Bob Filner, Councilman District 2 - Kevin Faulconer, and Councilwoman District 6 – Loir Zapf attending, providing speeches and providing Scout recognition. The Boy Scouts of America and Troop 500 is an ethics based leadership development organization at our core. That leadership development and the value of Scouting was recognized and emphasized by each one of our public officials and guests during the course of their visit. I could not have paid or timed it better regarding that line-up.
It’s been a difficult week for parents, family, ASMs and Committee members regarding the events that have recently unfolded. We can’t appreciate the mountain high peaks without acknowledging the valley floor and those friends and family who have walked with us.
Finally, I want to congratulate the Troop 500 Scouts for selling fundraising tickets. With your boots on the ground, exchanging and selling tickets resulted in a crowded hall where food and fun was had by all. The Scoutmaster Challenge (via Shinohara, Federici, Gizzi, Briest) of “Top Ticket Seller for 2013” will be recognized on June 5th at our next Court of Honor.
Thank you for all you do for Scouting!
